VerdantIsle Traders was founded with a simple premise: EU and UK industries relying on activated carbon deserve a more direct, more transparent, and more technically engaged supplier.

The coconut shell activated carbon market is dominated by intermediaries and multi-tier distribution chains that add cost and reduce visibility. We built VerdantIsle to change that — establishing direct relationships with certified manufacturing partners in India and handling every step of the import, documentation, and delivery process ourselves.

This approach lets us offer competitive pricing, full supply chain transparency, and the technical confidence that comes from knowing exactly where your carbon was made, how it was tested, and what it's capable of.

The Science

Why We Only Source Coconut Shell

There are three common feedstocks for activated carbon: coal, wood, and coconut shell. We chose coconut shell — and only coconut shell — for good reasons.

  • Superior hardness and attrition resistance — ideal for fixed bed and column applications
  • Predominantly microporous structure — optimised for small molecule adsorption
  • Renewable, sustainable raw material with lower carbon footprint than coal or wood-based alternatives
  • Consistently low ash content — reduced contamination risk in sensitive applications
  • Reliable, repeatable performance from a controlled, traceable feedstock

Partner Selection

We work exclusively with manufacturing facilities in India that have been vetted for production standards, testing capability, and export compliance. We conduct regular audits with our partners to maintain these standards.

Production & Testing

Carbon is produced to our specification and tested at the facility before export. Key parameters — iodine number, ash, moisture, hardness, mesh — are verified against the contracted specification.

Import & Delivery

We manage all import documentation, customs clearance, and final-mile delivery to your site. A Certificate of Analysis accompanies every consignment.

Elston Ryan Monteiro

Co-Founder & Operations & Commercial Lead

Elston is a former Indian Air Force officer and Product Assurance Engineer, with over 10 years of experience in aviation engineering, project management, and quality assurance. He has led multidisciplinary teams responsible for the airworthiness and mission readiness of complex fighter aircraft systems, and now applies the same rigour to logistics, supplier qualification, and product quality at VerdantIsle Traders. Based in Dublin, Elston oversees operations, commercial strategy, and go-to-market, building reliable, standards-driven supply chains between Indian manufacturers and customers across the EU and UK.

Isaac Devaraj

Co-Founder & Partnerships & Growth Lead

Isaac brings more than four years of experience in recruitment and HR operations, with a specialisation in aviation and management hiring across Europe. He has led large-scale recruitment campaigns for airlines and aviation service providers, giving him a deep understanding of workforce planning, stakeholder management, and cross-border coordination. At VerdantIsle Traders, Isaac leads customer relationships, distributor partnerships, and growth — using data-led strategies for market tracking, forecasting, and positioning VerdantIsle as a trusted partner for activated carbon buyers across the EU and UK.
